BRAM DE LOOZE
Piano é Forte
With Piano e Forte, the young pianist Bram De Looze uncovers the value of fortepiano’s, after being stunned by an encounter with the piano collection of Chris Maene. Through this solo piano project, he explores the textures and sounds allowed by these historical pianos on stage with multiple originals or replicas by famed piano builders as Anton Walter, Pleyel or Erard. Every one of these 19thcentury instruments contains their own mechanics, materials and structures, generating surprising differences in tone, resonance, timbre, volume and projection.
Improvisation is the main foundation of Bram De Looze’s playing. He draws on influences from creative music, historical and contemporary classical music, but is also firmly rooted in jazz. He plays particular attention to the historical repertoire associated with the pianos, merging it with his own playing style.
